DGIST ranks 3rd in South Korea and 33rd in the world in Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024! - First listing on the UK-based university ranking organization Times Higher Educations (THE) Young University Rankings- Ranked the highest among this years newly listed universities (33rd in the world), demonstrating its excellence in education and research worldwideDGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) has been ranked 3rd in Korea and 33rd in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2024. In the world rankings, it ranked the highest among this years newly listed universities, and the 3rd highest in Korea, behind POSTECH and UNIST.The Young University Rankings is a ranking of emerging universities within 50 years of establishment conducted by THE, a UK-based university ranking organization. It borrows the methodology of the THE World University Rankings, with some weighting adjustments, to highlight relatively new but rapidly developing universities. This year, the organization ranked 175 universities that met certain requirements out of 673 universities in 79 countries that submitted data."We are pleased to be recognized for our world-class research and academic achievements in this year's THE Young University Rankings," said DGIST President Lee Kunwoo. "In order for DGIST to leap forward as a world-class university, we will continue to develop our global competitiveness, attract outstanding faculty and talents from abroad, and promote joint projects with global institutions to achieve even better results."DGIST is a young university that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. It was established in 2004 as a national research institute, adding graduate school functions in 2011 and undergraduate functions in 2014. DGIST was ranked 7th in the world in terms of citations per faculty member, an indicator of research strength, in the last QS World University Rankings. It recently successfully bid to host the 2025 World Engineering Education Forum and Global Engineering Deans Council (WEEF-GEDC 2025), the world's largest engineering academic conference. DGIST is also working closely with local communities in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to foster global talents and develop local industries by establishing the ABB Global Campus and Graduate School of Engineering.

DGIST-Daegu sign MOU to create ABB Global Campus and Foster ABB Industry DGIST: Contribute to the creation of a self-sustaining digital innovation ecosystem by collaborating with Daegu Metropolitan City to successfully promote the "National Digital Innovation District" and foster local digital innovation companies and talentsDGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) and the Daegu Metropolitan City (Mayor Hong Jun-pyo) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Establishment of an ABB Global Campus and Fostering of the ABB Industry on Friday, April 10, at the Daegu Metropolitan City Hall Sanyeok Government Complex.The MOU is a prime example of the cooperation between the local community and university to foster a local digital ecosystem and was signed to develop the local ABB industry through the establishment of the DGIST ABB Global Campus and to successfully promote the building of a national digital innovation district.Through the MOU, Daegu Metropolitan City has agreed to actively provide administrative support for the construction and site preparation of the ABB Global Campus, and DGIST will strive to foster unmatchable digital talents and global industryacademia cooperation through the ABB Global Campus to successfully promote the project to create a national digital innovation district."The establishment of the DGIST ABB Global Campus is a strategic project of the university, which aims to consolidate the institution's ABB-related research fields and support the growth of local industries and companies to contribute to the creation of a regional digital ecosystem," said DGIST President Lee Kunwoo. DGIST Received Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Citations for Science Month in April Members of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of SciencePresident Kunwoo Lee) were awarded the Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Citations for Science Month in April. The awardees include Professor Youngsik Kim (Distinguished Contributions to Information and Communication) and Professor Jinho Chang (Distinguished Contributions to the Promotion of Science and Technology) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Senior Researcher Daehwan Kim (Distinguished Contributions to the Promotion of Science and Technology) at the Division of Energy Professor Youngsik Kim at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was awarded the Prime Minister Citation for Distinguished Contributions to Information and Communication for his contributions to advances in cryptographic technologies, including the development of commercializable fully homomorphic encryption for AI security and the advancement of quantum-resistant cryptography.Professor Jinho Chang at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was awarded the Minister of Science and ICT Citation for Distinguished Contributions to the Promotion of Science and Technology for his contributions to academic and industrial advances in biomedical engineering by developing, registering patents in Korea and abroad for, and transferring critical original technologies, including novel medical ultrasound imaging and treatment technology and the interdisciplinary imaging technology that can improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis by combining ultrasound and light.Senior Researcher Daehwan Kim at the Division of Energy Meanwhile, DGIST, which marks the 20th anniversary of its foundation this year, recently ranked 7th in the world in citations per paper per faculty member, an indicator for research excellence in the QS World University Rankings. Lately, DGIST is also preparing a foothold to become a world-class university as it successfully won the bid to host the World Engineering Education Forum - Global Engineering Deans Council 2025 (WEEF-GEDC 2025), the worlds largest conference in engineering education.
