Professor Chil Min Kim and Senior Researcher Ho Young Kim as New Vice Presidents of DGIST
 


- Appointed Professor Chil Min Kim from DGIST Department of Emerging Materials Science as the Vice President
- Appointed Former DGIST Research Director Ho Young Kim as the Research Vice President and Convergence Research Director

 

 

DGIST appointed new vice president and convergence research director/research vice president to strengthen the development of engineering human resources and lead academic-research cooperation education and convergence research activities through convergence education. Professor Chil Min Kim in the Department of Emerging Materials Science was appointed as the Vice President and Former Research Director of DGIST Ho Young Kim was appointed as the Research Vice President and Convergence Research Director.

Vice President Chil Min Kim earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in science from Sogang University Department of Physics. First as professor at Department of Physics in PaiChai University, he also served as the Research Dean and Industry-Academic Cooperation Director of DGIST, Director of Microlaser Convergence Research Center, and a professor in the Department of Emerging Materials Science, where he gained rich experiences in education and administrative affairs.

In addition, Vice President Chil Min Kim presented 100 SCI-level research papers and 15 patents in optical science and carried out various administrative and research activities by serving as the Work Director of the Korean Optical Society, Financial Director of Korean Physical Society, research director of Creative Research Initiatives Program, and research director of Future Promising Convergence Technology Pioneering Project.

Next, Convergence Research Director and Research Vice President Ho Young Kim obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Mechanical Design at Seoul National University and received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio State University in the U.S. He led his research activities by first serving as a researcher in Pohang Iron & Steel Co. Technology Institute, junior and senior researcher at RIST, senior researcher at POSCO Institute, and Research Director at DGIST.

Moreover, Director and VP Ho Young Kim presented 60 SCI research papers and also served as a Senior Researcher at the Ministry of Science and Technology-designated research institute, Director of Gyeongbuk Energy Technology Organization, visiting professor at Illmenau University of Technology in Germany, and a member of International Advisory Committee at International Symposium of Electromagnetic Processing of Materials, where he also built rich experiences in education and administrative affairs.

President Young Kuk of DGIST said “Vice President Chil Min Kim is an expert with abundant experiences in academic administration by serving as a DGIST professor and faculty member, while Convergence Research Director and Research Vice President Ho Young Kim has established foundations of convergence research by performing various research projects in Korea and abroad. I look forward to their prominent activities as they will play pivotal roles to make DGIST become a top, world-class convergence university by carrying out convergence education and research through academic-research cooperation.”

Meanwhile, DGIST appointed Professor Ki Joon Lee as the Dean of Convergence, Professor Jae Eun Chang as the Dean of Planning, Professor Dae Ryun Kim as the Dean of Admissions, Professor Min Soo Kim as the Dean of Academic Information, Senior Researcher Byeong Dae Choi as Director of Research, Senior Council Member Sang Cheol Han as the Director of Academic-Research Cooperation, and Professor Jeong Ah Lee as the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
