DGIST Discussion Seminar on Various AI Technologies - DGIST to hold 'DGIF 2019-ICE & Robotics' seminar
- Will have various academic discussions on AI technology R&D
DGISTannounced that it will hold ‘DGIF 2019-ICE & Robotics (DGIST Global Innovation Festival 2019)’ at its campus on Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25.
DGIF 2019-ICE & Robotics is the first ‘DGIF 2019’ event of different majors jointly hosted by the Department of Information & Communication Engineering and the Department of Robotics Engineering. With a topic on ‘AI technology for robot, autonomous driving, and medical image analysis,’ DGIF 2019-ICE & Robotics will hold an in-depth seminar on AI technology R&D and special lectures by prominent Korean and overseas researchers.
Highly anticipated sessions are presentations by Professor Dinggang Shen at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who is also the CEO of United Imaging Intelligence as well as Professor Zhu Han at the Houston University. A renowned expert in the AI medical image processing field, Professor Dr. Shen will introduce deep learning research on the early diagnosis of Alzheimer disease and the radiation treatment of prostate cancer. Dr. Zhu Han will be presenting his research findings on AI-based big data and social networks with discussions.
Moreover, 16 experts in AI and big data on medical science and healthcare will be invited as guest speakers from prestigious universities, firms, research institutes, and hospitals in Korea and all around the world. These include Dr. Guk-jin Yoon in the KAIST Department of Mechanical Aerospace Engineering, Dr. Nam-guk Kim at the Department of Convergence Medicine at Seoul Asan Hospital, and Dr. Dong-geun Yoo of ‘Lunit,’ the only South Korean firm to be selected as ‘Top 100 AI startups in the world’
This academic event will also introduce the current progress and performance on AI research made by DGIST. Professor In-kyu Moon from the Department of Robotics Engineering will talk about Medical Imaging Analysis Technology using Deep Learning; Professor Sang-hyeon Park from the same department will introduce 3D Cell Imaging and AI-based Automatic Analysis Technology, and Professor Seong-hoon Lim from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering will talk about ‘3D Imaging Recovery Technology based on Deep Learning for Autonomous Driving’ with discussions.
Professor Kyeong-jun Park at the Department of Information & Communication Engineering said “Through
DGIF 2019-ICE & Robotics, we hope to provide opportunities for AI researchers, the core technology of the 4th industrial revolution, to interact, cooperate, and share opinions with each other.” Professor Hong-soo Park in the Department of Robotics Engineering said “We will make endless efforts for DGIST develop AI experts and become the research hub.”
DGIF 2019 will be carried out as an academic conference and seminars for 6 majors of DGIST. Starting with the joint seminars by the Department of Information and Communication Engineering and the Department of Robotics Engineering on October 24-25th, seminars by the Department of Brain and Cognitive Science will be held on November 21-22, followed by seminars by the Department of New Materials Science and Department of New Biology on Thursday, November 28.
