With the ever-increasing demand for eco-friendly energy source, our department develops fuel cells which can continuously produce electricity under the supply of fuels and air. Currently, the industry for electrical vehicles (EVs) is growing very fast, and fuel cell, which directly converts chemical energy to electricity, is receiving significant attention for transportation and portable applications. Research scope and field of our department cover all types of fuel cells. Especially, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are considered as promising candidates for the transport applications. Further, biofuel cells are the most attractive small scale power sources for implantable and micro-scale devices due to their biocompatibility.
With the aid of advanced nanotechnology, we pursue to enhancement and optimization of the energy conversion efficiency and power density of fuel cells by understanding the structure-property relationship of new materials. Therefore, the ESE fuel cell research targets to develop efficient, durable and cost-effective fuel cell systems for mobile and transport applications. We develop core technologies in not only catalysts but also membranes in fuel cell reactor for the future fuel cell industry. Thus, our research features on the following topics.
