DGIST-Korea Naval Academy to Foster Global Young Talents

- Strengthen institutional ties through rowing races and scholarly exchange events -




DGIST and Korea Naval Academy hosted the 1st Literary and Martial Arts Competition at DGIST and Nakdong Rowing Stadium in Dalseong-gun from Friday, May 25 to Saturday, May 26.


The Literary and Martial Arts Competition jointly held by both universities included a rowing race along with academic and cultural exchange events designed to nurture human resources with global leadership skills and creativity. The event offers DGIST and the Naval Academy the opportunity to carry out a joint project with the aim of further strengthening their relationship.


During the two days’ event, DGIST undergraduate students and 50 cadets of the Naval Academy participated in academic and cultural exchanges and a rowing competition. In addition, Professor Sung Bae Lee from Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at DGIST delivered a special lecture on ‘Research Trends of Degenerative Brain Disease and Current Efforts and Possibility for Treatment Development’ along with DGIST campus tour and sports activities for academic and cultural exchange.


Especially on Saturday, May 26, a joint rowing training session was held on the Nakdong River, followed by men’s and women’s knuckle four (4+) 500m races and men’s eight (8+) 1,000m-rowing races. After the races are completed, participation medals were awarded to all participants at the closing ceremony.


DGIST President Sang Hyuk Son said, “This Literary and Martial Arts Competition will be an excellent opportunity for DGIST students and Naval Academy cadets to cultivate cooperation, leadership, and care in one place. To make this settled as an exchange match representing South Korea like the Rowing Race, which is a regular event between Cambridge University and Oxford University in the U.K., both schools will cooperate with each other and strive to foster well-rounded human resources”.


Meanwhile, DGIST and the Korea Naval Academy will hold the 2nd Literary and Martial Arts Competition at the Naval Academy campus located in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeonsangnam-do during the second half of this year.
