Orientation for New Faculty and Researchers

To help international members understand and adjust to life in DGIST and Korea, International Affairs Team offers customized orientation to new international members. The orientation is provided either on the date of arrival or right after the arrival. The date is decided through e-mail communication between the new member and the IAT.

Buddy and Orientation Week and for New International Students

Before arrival at Korea, DGIST Buddy, an DGIST enrolled student, will be paired with each of new international student. Buddy will help new student adapt to the new life at DGIST by picking up at DongDaegu station/bus terminal/airport, helping dormitory check-in and being a friend for a semester.
For new international students including exchange students from partner universities, the orientation will be held in the first week of semester. Each day session includes an introdiction of DGIST, a brief information on support progmras by DGIST, special lectures on Korean culture and language and DGIST campus life, and session for exploring Korean culture. All new international students are welcomed to participate in all sessions during orientation.

Korean Language Class

DGIST provides Korean language class not only for international students but other international members and their family. Two different levels of classes, one for beginner and the other for post-ginner, are offered per each semester. International students can take the courses after registration and, other members (faculties, researchers, staffs and long-term visitors) and their family can audit the courses.

International students must take at least one Korean Language course to meet the requirements for graduation. Students get TOPIK level 3 or higher or the recognition for their proficiency by the professor of Korean Language course can be exempted from taking the course.

Auditors can take the courses for free of charge and textbooks are provided.

Regular Meeting with International Members

Meetings with International Members take place in the beginning of each semester. The gathering provides a platform for international members to share ideas and opinions with each other as well as with related divisions in DGIST. Dinner and activities are prepared to make the gathering a delightful experience for all.

Cultural Excursion

International Affairs Team provides cultural field trips to cultural and historical sites in Korea for all international members to help enhance their understanding of Korean business, culture, and history. This event is held once a semester, in May and October.

Cultural Events and Classes

International Affairs Team presents cultural events celebrating Seollal (Korean New Year), Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day) and Christmas for international members to get familiar with Korean traditions and culture as well as to foster communications within international community. Additionally, international members are welcomed to participate in monthly cultural classes, including crafts session or making desserts.
Each event or class will be announced by email and on the Instagram.

Global Lounge

The Global Lounge is a multicultural space to foster an international perspective and sense for students and provides various one-stop services to international students. Since its opening in May 2015, the lounge offers a wide range of resources including international books, board games, and a variety of social and cultural gatherings all aimed at providing meaningful opportunities for international and Korean students to engage, and to facilitate global learning and internationalization on campus.
